Self Build: Quart from a Pint Plot

Andrew's new 1800Sqft home is built on a plot created dy demolishing 1 half of an existing pair on semi's. "The plot is quite narrow, but fairly long, like a lot of modern plots I suppose" says Andrew, "and we were limited in the heght of the new building by the planners to kept the roof line constant. This meant a bungalow was the only option, but it would mean we were limited for space. I thought about building a basement, but didnt really know where to start."

Andrew's Garage

"Then we met Logix at the Homebuilding and renovating show, and they showed me how using the Logix ICF system I could construct the walls simply, and quickly." says Andrew. The unique design of the Logix webs means that the vertical reinforcment bars can be installed after the wall is built, and that none of the bars have to be tied together. This makes for a safer and quicker build. The basement allowed Andrew to increase the overall size of the property by over 50%, without increasing the height or footprint.

"Before we started on the house we constructed a garage and workshop with the Logix system. Not only did this give us practise and the opportunity to get used to working with the blocks, but it also gave us some dry and warm to store tools and have a cuppa." says Andrew. "I'm really pleased with how the project has worked out so far. Working with the Logix system has kept us on track despite the wet and cold. Having got the structure up so quickly, I'm looking forward pressing on and turning this project into a home."

Discussions about how exactly to use the extra space are continuing between Andrew and wife Alexis. Possible plans include extra storage, a dressing room with extra wardrode space, a guest suite, or Andrew's favorite home cinema. Bets anyone?
